PCCL Case Study

Percutaneous cystolithotomy (PCCL) is a minimally invasive way of removing stones from the bladder. Percutaneous means through the skin, cysto means bladder, and litho means stone. Using the assistance of a rigid camera and stone basket, stones are removed from the bladder through an approximately 1-2 inch incision. We are able to look at the rest of the bladder to make sure no stones are left behind. Patients are often able to go home the same day with minimal pain or complications. This procedure can be performed in dogs and cats of any size. It is not safe to perform in dogs and cats with active bladder infections. Below are some pictures of the procedure.
